Today, I am getting back to the regular posting schedule (ie. every other Sunday) with a simple post that is all about catching up.
Getting back to writing has been a little harder than expected so this post will be less structured than the previous ones because I did not have the brains to plan it out perfectly.
It’s been a little while and I have to be completely transparent with you : I have literally only just finished writing it. 🙈
I hope you still enjoy it. ♥
What have I been doing ?
Even through everything that has been going on, both in my life and in my head, these last two months, I have still managed to get a few things done.
It’s not always easy to keep working hard when you are feeling bad or tired and/or when life gets a little overwhelming.
In these moments, it’s actually more important to take care of yourself & your mental health by resting and not pushing yourself too hard.
So, I have been making really slow progress lately, which is a hard pill to swallow for me, but I know that that’s still a victory.
Being able to create anything at all when you feel any kind of way except okay is a victory and as small as your steps seem to be, you are still making progress towards whatever it is you are working for.
I know it’s hard but the road is long so we must learn to pace ourselves, especially right now, with the pandemic and politics just weighing us down and making even the easiest things hard.
Sometimes we can take giant leaps, sometimes we can run for so long without stopping, but some other times, we just need to slow down and do what we can or even do nothing at all. Either way, we are still moving forward. ♥
So, I have been struggling to get work done on time and follow my own crazy plans and schedules, but I’ve still been doing things.
Today, I want to show you a new project that I am working on, but first…
A mini sketchbook tour
I don’t think anyone will be surprised to hear that this new project involves birds. 🦜 However, this time, you won’t see jackdaws or rooks !
Actually, scratch that… I just remembered that I do have a jackdaw and a rook drawing planned. 🤦🏽♀️ But they are still not going to be the main focus of the project which is a big change for me !
For this new series of drawings, I wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone without causing unnecessary panic. So, I stuck to my polychromos pencils which have been my favourite medium this year and went on a quest to find new feathered friends to draw.
I thought it would be really hard to draw so many new birds for the first time but it has actually been really fun and not too difficult (so far anyways!).
Since I have limited supplies for the project, I need to make sure that I know exactly what my birds are going to look like before I put them on the real thing. And so, surely but slowly, my sketchbooks are getting filled with all these new little birds and it is such a satisfying feeling.
I have compiled a little slideshow of all the drawings that I have made this far.
The wagtail, nuthatch and magpie are not going to be a part of the project but I still put them in because I’m really proud of them. 🌈
(The pictures aren’t exactly perfect, I think my phone is getting a bit worse everyday but I am trying to save up for a proper camera.)
Which one is your favourite ? 🙂 I personally love the wagtail and magpie ♥
About the project
This project consists of creating 6 sets of 3 hand drawn greeting cards for my Etsy shop.
I have been dying to create something new for the shop since I released the clay brooches & pins. And since I also was feeling adventurous, I thought this would be a great idea.
I put up some polls on my Instagram stories to help me decide about a few details for the cards and everyone was so helpful! ♥
So, as per the votes and some of my personal decisions as well, here’s all the details about it :
- The cards will be drawn with my polychromos pencils on kraft paper that I have cut up to fit in small kraft envelopes.
- Each card will come with its own envelope which I will draw some decorations on as well.
- There will be 5 sets of bird cards and 2 sets of mushroom cards.
- The cards will not have a handwritten greeting on their cover. (Although this one is still up for debate!)
This is a rather small project if you consider the size of the drawings and the amount of cards that I have to make (18). However, because I need to fully draw the birds/mushrooms in my sketchbook first so I don’t make a mistake on the card, it takes me double the time it probably should take.
I really want to be careful with them because I do not have an unlimited stock of kraft paper and so if I do mess up, the card probably would not be able to go on the shop which is not ideal.
I believe that it is going to take me a lot of time to finish this project, especially because of how slow I am moving at the moment. With this in mind, I decided that I would be listing each card set whenever they are finished instead of listing all of them at once.
I am hoping to finish them all in the next week though so they can still be up for Christmas orders but I know it might not be possible considering my current state and situation (and also the current shipping delays).
Anyways. I believe that I have shared enough for today and I am really eager to get back to working on something else, so it’s time to wrap up this post!
Before I leave, here is a slideshow of some work in progress pictures of the only 2 postcards that I have been working on so far, a robin & a house sparrow :
This was a bit of a strange post for me to write as it felt more like I was writing for my personal blog rather than this one but it was still fun. I hope you liked it ♥
Now it’s time for your comments.
If you have any thoughts to share about this post or the drawings or maybe something else, feel free to write about it in the comments and I will happily answer you as soon as I can. 😉
